🥕🍠 Carrot & Yam Sauce (8 Months+)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup yam (peeled, diced into small cubes)

  • 1 medium carrot (peeled, diced)

  • 1 small tomato (peeled, deseeded, chopped — optional)

  • 1 tsp olive oil or unsalted butter

  • ½ cup water or low-sodium vegetable/chicken stock


Instructions

  1. Cook base

    • Heat olive oil in a small saucepan.

    • Add diced carrots (and tomato if using). Sauté 2–3 minutes to soften and release flavor.

  2. Add yam & liquid

    • Add yam cubes and pour in water/stock.

    • Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes until yam and carrot are very soft.

  3. Adjust texture

    • At 8–10 months → mash into a thick sauce with some small lumps.

    • At 10–12 months → cut yam and carrot into soft finger-sized pieces, then spoon sauce over as a chunky stew.

  4. Serve warm

    • Can be eaten as is or mixed with a little mashed fish, chicken, or beef for added protein.
