🍠🎃 Cocoyam & Pumpkin Stew (8 Months+)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup cocoyam (peeled, diced into small cubes)

  • ½ cup pumpkin (peeled, diced)

  • ½ small onion (optional, very finely chopped — for toddlers)

  • 1 small tomato (peeled, deseeded, chopped — optional)

  • 1 tsp olive oil or unsalted butter

  • 1 cup water or low-sodium vegetable/chicken stock


Instructions

  1. Prepare the base

    • Heat oil in a small pot.

    • Add onion and tomato (if using), sauté 2–3 minutes until soft.

  2. Cook the cocoyam & pumpkin

    • Add diced cocoyam and pumpkin. Stir well.

    • Pour in water/stock and cover.

    • Simmer on low for 20–25 minutes until both are very soft.

  3. Mash or blend

    • For 8–9 months → blend into a smooth, creamy stew.

    • For 10–12 months → mash with a fork, leaving small soft chunks.

  4. Serve warm

    • Can be given plain or mixed with a little fish, chicken, or beef puree for added protein.
